The trust which looks after Glasgow's iconic Mackintosh at the Willow has issued a final call for donations to help save the iconic Tea Rooms on Sauchiehall Street.
Back in May, the not-for-profit organisation Willow Tea Rooms Trust said that the closure of the Tea Rooms, due to coronavirus and resulting lockdown, put a question mark on its future.
Having launched a crowdfunding campaign to help safeguard the future of the tearooms, they have so far met 91% of their target, raising just over £18,000 of the £20,000 being sought - with today being the final day of the campaign.
The funds will enable the tea rooms to reopen their doors once its safe to do so and prevent them from falling back into disrepair, and will also go towards continuing to provide education to young people across Scotland while providing employment, training and support for the young people who work at the Tea Rooms.
Caitlin Divers, Operations Manager at The Mackintosh at the Willow said "We are asking for the support of anyone who can help as we aim to raise enough money to help safeguard part of Scotland’s cultural heritage and continue supporting young people and communities across Scotland.”
The tea rooms, first opened as the Willow Tea Room by Miss Catherine Cranston in 1903, is one of Glasgow’s top historic attractions for Charles Rennie Mackintosh fans.
They reopened back in 2018 following a £10m refurbishment backed by a massive drive to return the A-listed building to its former grandeur.
