Glasgow's charity dating agency helping adults with learning difficulties find love

A Glasgow dating agency created to help adults with learning difficulties find love is celebrating 15 years of success.

Dates-n-Mates has been able to spark romantic relationships and lasting friendships through their matchmaking since launching in the city in 2008.

The charity gives members the opportunity to have a fun and meaningful social life through organised meet-ups that can see the group take on mini golf, enjoy a night at the cinema or get their dancing shoes on at TRNSMT.

To allow the team to keep making matches, the group is preparing to take on the Kiltwalk in a bid to raise more money for the lifeline charity.

Among those taking part will be a new couple, who were set up by Community Engagement and Events Planner Rebecca Wilson as a friendship match.

Since their first meeting at a Costa Coffee, the pair stayed in touch and continued to meet up outwith Dates-n-Mates and have officially become boyfriend and girlfriend.

Rebecca told Glasgow Live: "We work on a friendship-first basis. We get to know the members and find out their interests and then match people who we think would be a good fit.

"We do a lot of workshops for our members too, we've had a boundaries workshop and a friendly faces workshop. They'll get a qualification after completing them.

"We have around 200 members from a range of backgrounds, some of them start off quite introverted. It's really rewarding to see people coming out of their shells and going on to meet outside of the group."

Caitlin Mcgraw has been a member of Dates-n-Mates Glasgow for almost a year and describes her experience as life-changing.

She explained: "Dates-n-Mates Glasgow has helped me gain confidence in all aspects of my life, I have made many friendships from coming along to the events which I look forward to every month. So much so that I can't decide what event has been my favourite!

"I can't thank Dates-n-Mates enough for the experiences they have given me and would encourage others to sign up."

Staff and volunteers are now preparing to take on the Kiltwalk this weekend along with one of the charity directors Andrew McCartney.
