Glasgow's best rated fish and chips shops according to our readers

Glasgow is home to some of the best chippies around and the city is very fond of a fish supper.

Who doesn't love freshly fried fish, with delicious haddock, golden crumbly batter and tasty chips covered in salt and vinegar? Even better when washed down with a cold can of Irn-Bru.

So, we wanted to know where you thought was the best chippy in Glasgow, and you answered our poll in droves creating a top list of the restaurants and takeaways everyone should visit.

Without further ado, here are the best chippies in Glasgow as voted for by you, our readers.

Coronation Restaurant, 55 Gallowgate

Coronation in the Gallowgate was a hugely popular choice (Coronation FB)

This popular family-run chippy in the Gallowgate was by far the most voted for with fans gushing about everything from the quality of the food to the service.

One person wrote: "Always the best fish and chips with the best service from staff. A must-go every time I'm in Glasgow."

While another added: "Coronation Restaurant in the Calton Glasgow. Run by Cris Corvi and family. This is a fish and chip shop which sells traditional fried food of the highest quality.

"I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great fish or chicken supper. It's up there with the very best and has maintained this high standard for many decades and generations."

Old Salty's, Byres Road

The award-winning chippy and former fish and chip shop of the year in the west end always appears on these lists and ours was no different with fans praising the "next level quality" of the suppers on offer.

Recently voted one of the 50 best takeaways in the UK, we weren't surprised to see it listed here.

Fans loved the quality of the fish and pointed out how good the range of options available were.

Salt and Vinegar, Shawlands

Another southside favourite (and possibly another reason Shawlands was recently voted one of the best places in the city to live), Salt and Vinegar has a very loyal fan base who were only too happy to share the praise.

"Always freshly fried with great portions," One fan posted. "With excellent tasty batter and the best chips, I've had from a chip shop."

Scallops Tale in Bearsden

This chippy in Bearsden is much-loved and people couldn't wait to tell us why.

One wrote: "The food here is absolutely delicious and fresh, I would recommend to anyone who loves a good chippy."

While others lauded the service and the quality of the food.

The Oxford fish and chip shop, Garnethill

Highlighted regularly as Garnethill's 'Best kept secret', fans of the Oxford came out in droves to praise it.

One wrote: "The fish and chips are lovely and the staff very friendly and it is very clean and quite good prices."

And another added: "The food is amazing it’s always very fresh and great value for money, the staff are very friendly and the sit-in part of the chippy is immaculately clean."

The honourable mentions included The Tartan Chippie on Paisley Road West ("Fresh fish all the time 10/10"), The Neilston Chippy on the Main Street Neilston, ("the new owners are super friendly and so are the staff and the food is superb"), McMonagales Fish Boat in Clydebank ("the best"), Go Barracuda in Erskine ("Everything is cooked to order and delicious"), Enzo's in Bishopton ( "always fresh, always generous"), The Chip Chick Inn in Anniesland ("Still cooks with beef dripping"), Cafe Zecchino in Dennistoun ("their fish suppers are so fresh and tasty"), the aptly named it would seem Best Chippy in Hampden ("too good") and The Best Wee Chippy in Cathcart ("the nicest fish ever and always freshly cooked").
