Glasgow's best new restaurant and bar openings in 2022 so far and what's coming soon

It's one of the best times of the year in our beautiful city - there's (a little) more sunshine, the nights are getting lighter and summer holidays are on the horizon.

After the darkness of winter, it's time to start getting out and exploring again, especially after lockdown, and that means planning a few more meals and nights out.

And, after a busy couple of months for Glasgow's food and drink scene, there's yet again a number of new openings for you to check out.

In our latest round-up, we've got the arrival of a celebrity chef's street food concept in the city centre, a smattering of seafood spots and even the return of an old Finnieston favourite.

NEW OPENINGS
Gōst

Gōst is a new all-day dining and bar space featuring "delectable prime cuts of beef and expertly grilled fish" along with cocktails and quality wine.

It's the latest opening from the team behind popular Glaschu and gastro pub The Duke’s Umbrella. Taking over the former Viva Ristorante site on Bothwell Street, in the heart of Glasgow city centre, chef John Molloy has crafted a mouth-watering menu featuring a crab bisque shooter, roast Orkney scallops and stand-out dish ex-dairy prime rib.

Kelp

New seafood restaurant Kelp finds home in former Evoo eatery on Cowcaddens Road, a short walk from Glasgow city centre.

Serving sustainable Scottish seafood, the new food venue also benefits from a beautiful outdoor terrace which is sure to be a big hit this summer.

Food options include the likes of Isle of Skye landed langoustines; mussels with La Chouffe beer, smoked bacon, leek, sourdough and langoustines; Cumbrae oysters; and hand dived Barra scallop ceviche.

Murphy's Pakora Bar

A famous Finnieston food spot is back, taking Glaswegians on a nostalgia trip.

Iconic Argyle Street eatery Murphy's Pakora Bar used to be a regular haven for beer-soaked revellers on a Saturday night.

And as Glasgow Live revealed recently, more than two decades after closing its doors, seemingly for the very last time, Murphy's is back, having had its soft launch just this week.

Shucks

Another seafood restaurant announcing its recent arrival in Glasgow is Shucks, 'serving up the very best produce from Scottish waters'.

£250,000 has been invested into the Hyndland-based food spot, a new venture from Paul and Chris Charalambous, co-owners of Epicures, Cail Bruich and Brett, in partnership with leading hospitality investor and itison founder, Oli Norman.

The dishes have been designed by Head Chef Shaun Haggarty with the team behind Michelin-starred Cail Bruich heading up a kitchen bursting with culinary talent.

Gaucho

Heralded as Scotland's first 'carbon-neutral' steak restaurant, Gaucho is now serving up its renowned Argentine Beef from 'cattle which have enjoyed a life roaming in vast pastures at specially selected pampas farms'.

Alongside a comprehensive steak offering, diners will also find the likes of burgers, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options, while of course there's an extensive selection of wines. Gaucho has also garnered a reputation for its Sunday Roasts and brunch meals too.

NQ64

NQ64, The new food and drink spot from the team behind the retro arcade bar brand that's taking the UK by storm, threw open its doors to much fanfare in March.

Described as being 'Straight out a futuristic movie set', the new late-night basement venue is awash with neon and UV graffiti at every turn.

Meanwhile, on their retro gaming wall, you’ll get a change to take a nostalgia trip back to your childhood through the SNES, MegaDrive, Gamecube and PlayStation waiting for you to have a button-bashing go.

Boom Battle Bar

Boom Battle Bar, the UK’s only 'battle bar', has now opened in Glasgow.

The venue, at the St Enoch Centre, combines a bar, food and an entertainment battleground full of competitive gaming.

The Battleground at Glasgow will consist of augmented reality darts booths, Crazy NOLF, axe throwing lanes, beer pong tables, American pool, shuffleboard and will be the brand’s first site to launch in Scotland.

Ting Thai Caravan, west end

Ting Thai Caravan is welcoming in Glaswegians to its second city restaurant, in the west end.

The popular restaurant first started serving Thai Street food from their West Nile Street spot last summer.

And diners are now enjoying the likes of delicious Pad Thai, Massaman curry and Pad See-Ew, Asian salads, rice and noodle dishes from their second Glasgow location at 94 Byres Road.

Guid Egg

Five March's latest Glasgow food spot has opened with the arrival of Guid Egg.

Guid Egg is now welcoming in customers for on Elderslie Place, by Kelvingrove Park, near the main Five March restaurant.

After teasing what diners can expect from the cafe on Instagram on recent days, the Five March team have now revealed the menu, with breakfast, brunch and lunch to be served up daily between 7am and 2pm.

Wild Flours East

Wild Flours, which already had a branch in the south side of Glasgow, has opened a second location in Dennistoun's Duke Street.

The gluten-free bakery has received rave reviews for its cakes, bakes and pastries, including plenty of vegan options.

They're also serving locally sourced coffee at the new premise on 553 Duke Street, which now home to a gorgeous Emerald tile coffee bar.

Plant Blonde

Another bakery, which specialises in vegan sweet treats, has very recently opened in Glasgow's west end.

Operating a takeaway-only offering on Hyndland Street, Plant Blonde has already proved popular on account of its delicious cupcakes, cookies, croissants, and more.

COMING SOON
Mowgli

The highly-anticipated arrival of Mowgli Glasgow is almost upon us, with an opening date now confirmed.

Earlier this month, we reported that the popular Indian street food chain's first Glasgow - and Scottish - spot would open this April.

Bosses at Mowgli have now advised that they will welcome in their first customers through their doors on Easter Monday, April 18.

Fat Lobster

Another Glasgow seafood restaurant is taking shape in the form of Fat Lobster.

The team behind the new venture, the same one that runs popular city centre bar Tabac, recently teased details of the exciting new opening on social media.

The eatery, replacing the much-loved Mussel Inn on Hope Street, will be serving up a combination of seafood and small plates dishes alongside natural wines and cocktails.

Baldy Chef's Kitchen

Pizzas, loaded burgers, fries and shawarma will be served up in the south side with the arrival of The Baldy Chef's Kitchen.

Opening this week, the brilliantly-named Battlefield food spot replaces the former Persepolis takeaway on Battlefield Road.

The Baldy Chef's Kitchen will be open for both delivery and takeaway and is expected to serve an array of comfort food, opening 'til the wee hours of the morning.

Gyros

Opening on Byres Road at the former Martha's Deli later this month, Gyros comes from the team behind popular Glasgow Greek spot Halloumi and promises 'reimagined Greek street food that combines a modern taste with traditional Greek flavours.'

The menu will include an authentic Gyros selection that will be freshly and lovingly prepared to order right in front of you, for a big hit of taste and flavour, with the new 'grab and go' style diner set to offer 'a culinary trip to Greece’s boldest flavours'.

Buck's Bar new location

Everyone's favourite chicken-and-beer-joint has announced they're going to be opening their fourth venue in Glasgow, hot on the heels of their new south side location opening.

The details are under wraps for now, with both date and location to be confirmed by bosses shortly - and judging by their existing venues, it's set to be a hit no matter where it ends up.

Scallop's Tale

Scallop's Tale is coming to Bearsden this April.

After investing over £350,000 in the family seafood spot, owners hope the venue will become a go-to dining destination for local and visiting foodies.

Set to open at Bearsden Cross in this month, the two-level restaurant and takeaway aims to offer a ‘refined family dining experience’ unlike anything in the surrounding area.

The Scallop's Tale will boast an extensive dine in and takeaway menu, featuring locally-sourced fresh signature seafood dishes.

The Bakehouse

The west end will welcome a new pub this spring in the form of The Bakehouse.

At the start of the year, Greene King lodged an application for the site of 510 Great Western Road, which was until recently occupied by popular Mexican taqueria and bar El Jefe's, who are currently on the lookout for a new location.

Greene King told Glasgow Live: "We can’t wait to open The Bakehouse on the popular Great Western Road under our managed pubs estate.

"We’ve got some exciting plans for the pub and we look forward to sharing an update on the refurbishment in due course."

Doner Shack

Silverburn is set to boost its food offering with the news Doner Shack is moving in to the site.

Doner Shack is already serving up the likes of kebaps, fries, currywurst and draught beer at shopping centres in Leeds and Manchester, while a third English venue will soon open in Leicester.

A look at the menu shows the food spot is likely to be a huge hit at Silverburn. Shawarma, chilli and cheesy kebaps will be served in freshly baked sesame seed pida's, while diners can also opt for the delicious-sounding tellers - fries topped with meat or veggie options.
