Glasgow's Barras first Hong Kong street market will feature food, games and live performances

The Barras is being transformed at the end of March into a traditional Hong Kong-style street market and the famous London Road site has revealed more details about what people can expect.

The famous market in the Gallowgate, which is one of the UK's oldest, is hosting the free event on the weekend of March 25 and 26.

They've now confirmed the event, which runs on both the Saturday and the Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm and is free to attend and both family and dog friendly, will feature authentic street food, traditional and modern arts and crafts, street games and live performances.

Posting about the event on the Facebook page, they shared that every single one of our traders at the market, which is set to take over the London Road section, will be from Hong Kong.

The Barras team posted: "We will have 25 traders all under one roof (London Road section of Barras Market) Plus another 100 plus traders all around Barras Market - We urge you to make a day of it!"

They've also offered a sneak peek at some of the traders who will be appearing on the day:

  • Rasy Craft – handmade and small-batch candle makers who only use natural soy wax.
  • TSANG'S – Street barber Sammy will be on hand to cut hair

  • Chinese medicine consultant - Amy will be offering Chinese herbal medicine, chatting about the theory behind it and displaying the instruments they use.

  • Fishball Revolution – Hong Kong street food expert and long-term resident of the market Chris, will be offering delicious dishes including Curry fish balls, pork Siu My and Hong-Kong style haggis.

  • Keychain boy – Trader Evin imitates HK minibus signs in a keychain form.

Speaking about the exciting event the team posted: "Explore authentic street food, traditional and modern arts & crafts, street games, live performances, Chinese medicine and more.

"Learn about the history and celebrate the culture of Hong Kong."
