Glasgow rumoured to star as Gotham once more for major comic book movie

A rumour has surfaced online that Glasgow could once again become Gotham for a major comic book movie.

Scotland's biggest city has already doubled up as the fictional metropolis for no less than three blockbuster movies; The Batman, The Flash, and most recently, Batgirl.

Now the movie gossip is that Glasgow could once again witness the movie cameras, set pieces and action sequences for The Black Canary, due for release sometime in 2023 via HBO Max.

Jurnee Smollett will take on the role of the DC Extended Universe character, following on from her appearance as the superhero in 2020's fantasy action drama Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie.

The rumour stems from online fan account Best of Jurnee Smollett, who published a thread on Black Canary rumours on Twitter.

A tweet from the fan account read: "Black Canary is rumoured to start filming in Spring of 2023, with casting starting around Nov/Dec. We don't know if the movie is set in Gotham, where Dinah lives/lived, but if it is they might film in Glasgow like Batgirl did."

The account points to the fact that several posters and props regarding Black Canary appeared on the Glasgow set for Batgirl in the Trongate area, while there is everything to suggest that Black Canary herself will make a cameo in the movie in a post-credits scene.

Production on Batgirl wrapped in the city back in April after four months of filming, becoming the first ever Hollywood production to have been shot entirely in the city in the process.

The live-action film stars Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser as baddie Firefly and Michael Keaton as Batman.
