The Eurovision dream is officially over for Glasgow following the news that Liverpool has been chosen to host the 2023 event on behalf of Ukraine.
Graham Norton delivered the sad news that the city had been pipped to the post by the birthplace of The Beatles on Friday evening. Liverpool has now vowed to throw the "best party ever" at its 11,000-capacity Liverpool Arena next May.
Speaking after the result, Nicola Sturgeon shared her congratulations with the new hosts. Posting on social media, she said: "Congratulations, Liverpool. Gutted for Glasgow, but no doubt you’ll do Eurovision and Ukraine proud."

Glasgow City Council Susan Aitken added: "Massive congratulations to Liverpool, a great city. Now gie it laldy for Ukraine. Am so proud of our Glasgow team who put together a brilliant bid to get to the final two. We’ll be cheering Liverpool on for a successful Eurovision with the Ukrainian people at its heart."
The news that Glasgow wouldn't be hosting the event - dubbed the Olympics of pop music - was met with a mixed reaction. While some believed the city wasn't prepared to host, others were happy to wish Liverpool all the best.
Hazel Ann Brolly said: "The Hydro should just try and do a Eurovision-themed tributary act thing on an epic scale I’m sure Jedward would be a shoe-in."
Ellisabeth Llochrie added: "Glasgow has equal musical heritage albeit not an equivalent to the Beatles (if that really was the reason....cough). However I wish Liverpool well. it's a fab city resonant with our own. Glasgow can cope with big events though- Cop26 and Commonwealth were managed just fine."
Heather Collins commented: "Such a shame, would have brought much-needed revenue to the city. Can't believe the Gkaswegians which have commented on here saying they're pleased we didn't get it. Unbelievable."
Carol Anne Campbell Morrison said: "OMG...Glasgow people is still miles better. But we will still be the best even if we don't host the Eurovision. We will always be the City that loves everything and wish Liverpool ( all the best from Glasgow)."
Dawn Wiles added: "Shame we didn't get it would've been a fantastic economical boost for the city but well done to Liverpool a well-deserved city to host it."
Fiona Paterson said: "Hotel prices can get back to normal now. Disappointed it’s not being held in a Glasgow but at the same time won’t miss the hassle that it would’ve brought."
Yvonne Maureen commented: "Glasgow’s transport system is an embarrassment, we don’t deserve to get it! Never been in a city anywhere in the world, that is harder and more expensive to get from A to B! Especially when you arrive at the airport!"
Rose Anne Main posted: "Sorry Glasgow didn't. But glad it is Liverpool as they are practically the same type of people, and the city is very like Glasgow. Good on ye Liverpool now gie it laldie!"
Margaret Hemphill Sweeney added: "After all the heartache in Liverpool recently and in the past, this is exactly what they need to raise spirit's and increase the moral. Well done Liverpool."
