Glasgow police 'chase' driver down Kelvin Walkway forcing public to 'jump over fence'

Members of the public were forced to jump over fences to avoid being hit by a car being 'chased by police' on the Kelvin Walkway.

Police pursued a driver who failed to stop when signalled down the popular walking route around 5.20pm on Friday afternoon.

The car was said to be driving 'dangerously fast' causing pedestrians to take drastic action to avoid being hit.

A picture from the scene shows walkers standing on a muddy verge and on the opposite side of the railing while a car passes through a tight bridge on the walkway.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live that the car was being chased by police but managed to evade officers. The police car then turned around and travelled in the opposite direction.

They said a helicopter was spotted in the area not long after.

Police are still searching for the driver who failed to stop for them on Hinshaw Street around 4.55pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing after driver failed to stop for officers when signalled on Hinshaw Street, Glasgow around 4.55pm on Friday, March 3.
