A petition has been launched to erect a memorial to the Witches of Pollok in Pollok Park.
The petition called on Glasgow City Council to memorialise the five women and one man from Pollokshaws and Polloktoun who were sentenced to death for witchcraft in 1677.
Bessie Weir, Margret Jackson, Jonet Mathie and John Stewart "were strangled and burned at Paisley" and "executed because of superstition, misogyny and class privilege", while Annabel Stewart was spared.

Those behind the petition called for the memorial to be located on the site of the now demolished village of Polloktoun in Pollok Park.
Unfortunately, the petition was rejected by the council last week, who wrote: "A petition regarding the above matter received on 16th March 2022 is ineligible in terms of the guidance for public petitions which states that petitions should refer to Services provided by Glasgow City Council or to issues that affect your community that the Council is involved in.
"This is not a Service provided by the Council and is not a matter in which the Council is involved. The petition has therefore been rejected."
