Glasgow petition aims to keep River Clyde waterfront area 'accessible to public' instead of 'in private hands'

A petition has been launched aimed at keeping the River Clyde riverfront 'accessible to the public, instead of in private hands'.

Titled 'Don't Hide Oor Clyde!', the petition is calling for a section of the Clyde at Glasgow Harbour to be developed as a community green-space for the residents of Thornwood, Glasgow Harbour, Whiteinch and Scotstoun.

It petition reads: "The people of Glasgow are literally being sold down the river. Our beautiful river Clyde is being sold off as prime estate to property developers who in turn want to develop high rises for profit.

"We are petitioning that a section of the Clyde at Glasgow Harbour is better developed as community green-space for the residents of Thornwood, Glasgow Harbour, Whiteinch and Scotstoun. This green space would compliment the wonderful Glasgow Green and balance our dear green place. Please sign our petition."

Those behind the petition are also looking to name the riverside area ''Jimmy Reid Park' - after the iconic shipyard worker and trade union activist who led the famous famous 'work-in' at Upper Clyde Shipbuilders between June 1971 and October 1972.

Since being launched last month, the petition has been signed over 300 times. You can sign it here
