Glasgow pensioner knocked fellow OAP out over parking space row

A pensioner knocked a 78-year-old man unconscious amid an argument over a parking space.

Daniel O'Donnell, 66, pushed Frederick McKibbin to the ground at their flat block in Glasgow's Townhead on June 22, 2019.

The victim was sparked out for 10 minutes after he hit his head on impact.

O'Donnell pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr McKibbin.

The court heard O'Donnell put a rope through Mr McKibbin's door at 11pm.

Mr McKibbin came out and the pair argued on the close.

Prosecutor Carrie Stevens said: "This was about the rope being used to secure a parking space.

"O'Donnell pushed Mr McKibbin to the chest which caused him to fall backwards and hit his head against the ground.

"He lost consciousness for a period of 10 minutes."

An ambulance took the victim to hospital and O'Donnell was traced to his home by police.

Mr McKibbin underwent a CT scan and he fortunately came out with no injuries.

O'Donnell was charged and told officers: "I was sitting on stairs, he came at me with a rope, so I pushed him."

Michael O'Neill, defending, told the court that Mr McKibbin had used the rope to claim the parking space as his own.

The lawyer added: "Mr O'Donnell was drinking and returned home to see the rope was on the parking space.

"He took the rope and put it through Mr McKibbin's letterbox and he came out.

"He accepts he pushed Mr McKibbin and he fell to the ground.

"He does have remorse for his conduct as he is someone who has stayed out of trouble for a significantly long period of time."

Sheriff Johanna Johnstone QC fined O'Donnell, now of the city's Thornliebank, £520.

She told him: "It was a dreadful thing to do to push someone, it was risky and you shouldn't have done it."
