Glasgow parents share photos of schoolchildren dressed up for World Book Day

Today is World Book Day and schoolchildren all across the UK have dressed up to the nines to mark the day.

From the Mad Hatter to Matilda, youngsters have channeled their their favourite characters - and the results have been as fantastic as ever.

And the children of Glasgow definitely haven't let the side down, turning up in an array of imaginative costumes from children's books, both classic and modern.

An annual charity event, World Book Day aims to help promote reading for youngsters around the country by giving every child in full-time education a voucher that can be spent on books.
