Glasgow pair filmed 'surfing' the River Clyde on hydrofoil boards

The nice weather on Sunday saw Glaswegians flock to local parks, ice cream parlours and beer gardens to soak up a rare combination of sunshine and blue skies.

And while some braved shorts and T-shirts to welcome the disappearance of the storms and snow that has pounded the city recently, one pair of thrill-seekers sought to full-blown Bahamas it seems by taking to the River Clyde on hydrofoil boards.

The bizarre sight - one more suited to the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean - was spotted in the slightly less glamorous locale of the Clyde against a backdrop of the Lancefield Quay development.

Footage taken by a surprised local shows the wetsuit wearing pair cruising down the Clyde on the hydrofoil boards, which can set you back over £1,000 a pop.

The hydrofoil part is placed under a surfboard that extends the board into the water, with the hydrofoil then lifting the surfboard out of the water thanks to kinetic energy - making it look like they are hovering above the water Marty McFly-style.

It's not the first time someone's been spotted on a hydrofoil board on the Clyde, with the sight of a daredevil surfing on one in July last year also causing a stir among locals.
