Glasgow one of top five hottest UK 2023 destinations according to Booking.com

Glasgow has been named one of the top five trending UK travel destinations by holiday booking website Booking.com.

The travel giant has released its yearly Travel Predictions Report, which reveals the hottest trending destinations for the year ahead. The report includes responses from over 24,000 travellers across 32 countries and territories.

Among the five UK cities predicted to have a major year in travel is Glasgow. The Scottish city joins Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Preston in the top five.

According to the report, approximately 33 per cent of travellers in the UK are seeking "off-grid" style holidays in an effort to escape from reality. With a wealth of stunning locations right on Glasgow's doorstep, most notably Loch Lomond, it's no wonder it appeared on the list.

Arjan Dijk, Senior Vice President at Booking.com said: "If the last few years have taught us anything it’s that travel should not be taken for granted.

"This year’s travel predictions research shows the undercurrent of intentional paradoxical behaviours that will put us all more comfortably in the driving seat amid relentless instability.

"It also demonstrates a desire for travel to be a way to seek unapologetic moments of happiness and escapism to counteract the heavy realities of our news feeds."
