Glasgow named by influential mag as 'one of worst cities to live in Europe'

Scotland is regularly named as one of the dream countries in the world for people to visit.

So, it'll come as a bit of a surprise that an influential magazine has just named its biggest city one of the worst cities in Europe to live in.

Toronto-based digital media website Que Pasa picked out Glasgow alongside other tourist favourites such as Rome, Milan, Marseille, Lisbon and Madrid.

While Nottingham was the only other UK city to also appear on the list, according to the report by Glasgow Live.

Posting about the list, the website, which has over 100,000 followers on Facebook and 60,000 on Instagram, wrote: "Certain cities in Europe are known for their unpleasant living conditions, such as unstable economy, bad weather, unfriendly people, high crime rates, intrusive regulations, and limited access to healthcare."

And in naming Glasgow as one of the worst cities in Europe, they added: "Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, located in the United Kingdom. Glasgow has long been known to have problems with gang turf wars.

"Due to this and other acts of violence, there have been reports of many deaths over the years.

"In 2010, a total of 30 murders occurred and this averaged the number of violent deaths that occur in Glasgow each year. Territory and gang wars make Glasgow one of the least safe cities in all of Europe and especially the UK.

"The homicide rate is 5.1 murders per 100 thousand inhabitants, which makes it unsafe for people at any time of the year."

Perhaps in the past the city has had its problems and the reputation remains, but would you live there?
