Glasgow mum left with devastated daughter after three hour Elfingrove opening delay sees them miss their spot

An angry Glasgow mother was left with a devastated daughter after the much-anticipated opening of Elfingrove in the city's west end was delayed by three hours meaning they missed out on their time-slot.

Paula McDonald and her daughter Jessica, 9, were due to enjoy a session on the ice at 12noon today but were only notified 10 minutes before they were due to arrive at the attraction at 11.30am that the session had been cancelled due to a technical fault.

Left with one very unhappy daughter, the frustrated mother stated the three-hour delay to opening and the inability to warn them earlier of the cancellation was a "poor show" from Elfingrove's management.

She told Glasgow Live: "After all the huge publicity around the opening of Elfingrove today from 12pm to the public, the event was cancelled at 11:30am.

"We arrived at the event today at 11:40 as advised to get there 15 min early to get our skates, only to be told I would have received an email advising the event was cancelled.

"The email was only sent out at 11:30 am so unless you live across the road everyone had already travelled and arrived at the event. So many disappointed and crying kids outside there today, such a disappointment."

Elfingrove management, itison, apologised to the affected customers and offered alternative time slots to everyone following the technical delay.

However, Paula added that although she received an apology email with complimentary hot chocolate and Snow Wheel tickets, she already had tickets for the latter and felt it didn't make up for the time, money or petrol wasted.

Another disappointed parent posted on Facebook writing: "Went this morning at 11am to be told it be opening at 3 pm. ‘Technical issues’ can’t be helped but now have 3 disappointed kids on my hands."

Speaking about the delay, a spokesperson from itison, said: “We were delayed three hours opening this morning due to an unfortunate technical issue which was resolved as soon as we possibly could.

“We are really sorry to those impacted. Everyone has been offered alternative times and complimentary hot chocolate and Snow Wheel tickets for the inconvenience."

They added that the problems were fixed by this afternoon and have since been able to open as originally planned, stating: "We are open as normal and everyone is having a great time skating, enjoying the Snow Wheel and some festive food.”
