Glasgow mum in warning to parents after daughter, 8, approached by stranger

Police are investigating after two young children were allegedly approached by a stranger in the Gilshochill area.

An eight-year-old girl was out playing with her friend on Inga Street around 9.15pm on Wednesday when the stranger made attempts to talk to them.

The girl's parent posted a warning for others on community group No1seems2care.

She said: "Last night at approximately 9.15pm, a male stranger approached my eight-year-old daughter and her friend. They were both playing inside the nursery grounds of Langa Street Nursery

"He tried to coerce them into going and speaking to him. He advised them he had something he wanted to tell them, making hand gestures for them to go over towards him.

"Luckily my mum went into the street and witnessed this male stranger, she managed to get the kids to safety and he proceeded down Langa Street, into a lane that leads to Veila Street and onto the canal.

"He was dressed in navy dark clothing, wearing a skip hat, and was of a small build, possibly about 5ft-5ft2."

Police are now investigating the disturbing incident and have asked anyone with information to get in touch with them.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We received a report around 11.10am on Thursday, August 4, in connection with a man approaching children in Inga Street, Glasgow.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the individual and establish the full circumstances.

"The incident happened around 9.15pm on Wednesday, August 3, and anyone with information that could assist officers is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1135 of Thursday, August 4.”
