A Glasgow resident and union worker has hit out after an iconic city building was left with boarded-up windows.
The Mitchell Library in Charing Cross dates back to 1877 and is considered one of the most celebrated buildings in Glasgow. Recent photos have shown boarded-up window panes in part of the library.
Sean Baillie, who works for GMB union, shared the image on social media and stated unions would be meeting this week in the wake of the planned cuts to city resources.

The Glasgow City Council budget last week confirmed that the Mitchell Library's opening hours would be reduced as one of several cost-cutting measures implemented by the local authority.
Speaking to Glasgow Live, Sean said: “This is the consequence of cuts, the latest council budget has further restricted the access and delivery of key services across Glasgow Life to those who need them most.
“The city is experiencing a growing health and social well-being crisis, one you cannot cut your way out of.
“Our libraries and the staff inside them are a lifeline to many, if Glasgow is to recover the council must protect and invest in our community facilities, the staff and the services they deliver.
“£500m has been taken from the city’s budget in the past 10 years and it shows. Trade Unions are drawing up plans not only to resist these cuts but to win back the millions taken from our libraries, our services and our communities.”
Others responded to the tweet, expressing their concern at the damage. One said: "What a sad sight far too many of our lovely buildings left to rot."
Meanwhile, another added: "Awful. It is the most magnificent building and council shouldn’t be allowed to leave it to crumble and decay."
One person also tweeted: "All this beauty and resource left to decay."
A spokesperson for Glasgow Life confirmed there were plans for the windows to be mended, saying: “The broken window panes at the Mitchell Library are due to be replaced soon.”
