Glasgow Meatloaf Starstruck contestant sails through to final after wowing judges

Much-loved singing competition show, Starstruck, returned to our television screens once again this weekend and one contestant from Glasgow certainly did the city proud.

The Glaswegian contestant sailed his way through to the final thanks to a powerful Meatloaf performance on Saturday night, despite admitting has has previously only performed in care homes.

William, a NHS Mental Health worker from Glasgow, took to the stage with three other singers as they belted out 'I Would Do Anything for Love', reports the Daily Record.

Before taking to the stage the 31-year-old said: "I don't sing because I want to be a big diva, I sing because I want to uplift and make people happy.

"Gigging in care homes is my favourite place to gig because I love old people. They're very honest and tell you how it is.

"If I can sing in front of them, I can sing in front of anybody."

Team Meatloaf were picked by judges Shania Twain, Jason Manford, Adam Lambert and Beverley Knight, as the best performers of the night. This meant that all three men had to compete against each other for a place in the final and a chance of winning the ultimate cash prize of £50,000.

And with it left to audience to decide who they thought was the best singer, it was the Glaswegian who was triumphant.

After the results were announced host Olly Murs asked him how he left. He responded: "Overwhelmed, completely overwhelmed. I sing in care homes. I don't sing on stages like this."

Whilst the NHS worker wowed the judged and viewers at home, another Scots contestant also left their partner wowed after he heard her sing live for the very first time.

Charlotte, 34, was part of Team Shania and joined three other girls on stage as they performed 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman! in front of Shania Twain herself thanks to her being a judge on the show. The Children's Mental Health Practitioner was part of a girl group in 2014 - so is no stranger to a crowd.
