Police have welcomed the sentencing of a man who offered to help a vulnerable student commit suicide.
Craig McInally pleaded guilty to culpable and reckless conduct, with a sexual element, at the High Court in Glasgow and was handed an Order for Lifelong Restriction and ordered to serve a minimum of two years and three months behind bars.
The 31-year-old from Ibrox deliberately targeted people who were vulnerable and met the 25-year-old on a website for people who were contemplating ending their lives. The woman, living in Glasgow at the time, visited McInally’s flat in late 2019 where he tried to 'assist' in her suicide.

McInally was also given an Order for Lifelong Restriction (OLR), which means that if he is ever released he will be subject to conditions and monitoring for the rest of his life.
Detective Chief Inspector John Stewart from Specialist Crime Division, Major Crime, and Senior Investigating Officer on the case, said: “Craig McInally is a calculated and dangerous individual and we welcome his conviction, and the sentence passed down today at the High Court in Glasgow.
“The 31-year-old targeted women at their lowest point and encouraged them to end their lives for his own gratification, even going so far as to try and assist.
“For two years we’ve worked closely with a range of other partners in the UK and internationally to protect the victims and bring McInally to justice for these despicable crimes.
“I would strongly urge anyone who is concerned that a loved one is at risk from someone like McInally to contact their local police force.
“Information about such criminality can also be passed to Police Scotland online, or through the 101 service."
