Glasgow man walking to London to stage protest over wife's marriage visa 'delay'

A Glasgow man is walking all the way to London to stage a protest over the 'delay' in his wife's marriage visa application.

Mohammad Dadqooq, from Libya, says he will not eat until he arrives at his destination in the capital - at the gates outside 10 Downing Street.

The 34-year-old set off from his home in the Milton area of Glasgow on Saturday morning on the 400-mile plus journey - which could take him as long as 20 days to complete.

Speaking through a translator, Mohammad told Glasgow Live: "I am from Libya, I was working with the former Gaddafi regime, and after the fall of the regime, I was arrested and punished by the new regime.

After that I got out of the detention camp and fled across the sea to Italy, and then to the UK and applied for asylum here in 2017.

"I got residency in 2021. I decided to go to London because my wife lives in Tunisia now. She applied for a visa four months ago and has yet to receive a response from the authorities.

"I am very tired of this situation. I want a solution for my wife so we can be together".

Mohammad fled to Europe from his native Libya in 2016, and says he hasn't seen his wife since July of 2015 - a period of almost seven years.

He says will remain outside the gates at 10 Downing Street until his pleas for assistance to help solve his wife's marriage visa situation are answered.

He added: "I will stand in front of the government building until someone from inside it challenges me."

A Home Office spokesperson said: “We are prioritising Ukraine Family Scheme and Homes for Ukraine applications in response to the humanitarian crisis caused by Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine, so some other applications are taking longer to process. We are working to process applications as quickly as possible."
