Glasgow man stabbed with 'huge knife' collapsed in Central Station

A man pulled a "large knife" from the waistband of his trousers and stabbed his victim as he left a shop in Glasgow

Scott McLuckie, 47, admitted trying to murder Dylan McGlinchey in the city centre attack when he appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow yesterday.

The 23 year-old suffered medical complications after being knifed, but fortunately survived.

McLuckie yesterday pled guilty to an attempted murder charge at the High Court in Glasgow and he will be sentenced next month

The hearing was told Mr McGlinchey had been approached by McLuckie and his partner on November 9 last year.

The victim claimed he had not previously known the thug.

But, a confrontation occurred in the city's Gordon Street which was captured on CCTV.

Prosecutor Erin Campbell said: "McLuckie produced a large knife from the waistband of his trousers and lunged towards Mr McGIinchey stabbing him on the lower back and arm.

"Realising that he had been stabbed and bleeding, Mr McGlinchey ran along Union Street and into Glasgow Central Station to get help.

"As he entered the main concourse, he collapsed and was assisted by witnesses."

One woman - who previously had nursing experience - helped stem the blood and get an ambulance.

The victim needed surgery and was later discharged from hospital.

But, he had to return a number of times after not recovering properly and a decision was made to remove a kidney.

McLuckie, of Springburn, was later traced by police. He insisted he knew Mr McGlinchey and had not been a stranger to him.

Jim Wallace, defending, said there was "some background" between the men and others they knew.

It emerged McLuckie already had a lengthy criminal past and had previously been jailed for violence.

Lord Young remanded McLuckie in custody and deferred sentencing for reports.
