Glasgow man proposes to girlfriend with Clydebank takeaway 'onion toastie' box

A Glasgow man's attempt at a proposal-gone-wrong has blown up the internet.

Jim Lardner shared a picture of his toastie order for the Kilbowie Cafe in Clydebank, writing: "Can I get red onions on the toastie with onions please.

"Can you write will you marry me on a box with the onion toastie. She will be ecstatic. Thanks."

Spoiler alert - she was definitely not ecstatic.

Jim shared the picture of the box with the toastie at the side, which was covered in love hearts and kisses by the staff at the Kilbowie Cafe.

Really, they should give themselves a pat on the back, because they did make a good effort with what they had.

Jim shared a picture of the effort onto his Twitter writing "Shoutout to Kilbowie Cafe... She said no".

We can't say we were really surprised, Jim.

The tweet has gone totally viral with thousands of likes.

Everyone seems really impressed at the great customer service from the Kilbowie Cafe - which almost makes up for Jim's lack of romanticism. Or thought.

Ian McQuarrie wrote: "I looked again at the picture. Not only did they write your message, they added as many handwritten hearts as they could to get you across the line. This is great service..."

Joanna said: "I've made and packed up many a proposal gift. Always sent with a 'let us know' never to hear again."

We hope the fifteen minutes of online fame and extra red onions will help Jim heal his broken heart.
