Motorists using the M8 have been met with disruption after the M8 was forced to close due to a vehicle fire.
Traffic Scotland alerted road users to the fire on the M8 eastbound between Junction 6A (Newhouse / Airdrie) and Junction 5 (Shotts/ Harthill) around 10:25am this morning.
All traffic was held briefly before the motorway reopened to traffic around 10 minutes later.
Traffic information site INRIX is reporting that one lane (of two) remains closed and traffic is still queueing.

An initial alert read: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to vehicle fire on M8 Eastbound between J6A A73 Bellside Road (Newhouse / Airdrie ) and J5 B7057 ( Shotts / Harthill). Traffic was held briefly, lane one (of two) remains closed."
A fresh update a short time later read: "All lanes open, earlier vehicle fire on M8 Eastbound between J6A A73 Bellside Road (Newhouse / Airdrie) and J5 B7057 (Shotts / Harthill). Lane one (of two) was closed."
Footage taken from people within passing vehicles shows the car ablaze on the hard shoulder with thick smoke billowing into the skies above.
Police say no one was injured in the blaze and fire crews were able to extinguish the fire.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Officers were alerted to reports of a car on fire on the M8 eastbound near Harthill at around 9.50am on Tuesday, 26 April, 2022.
“There were no injuries reported and emergency services attended to extinguish the fire.”
