Glasgow Italian cafe famed for stuffed cookies to close for good

One of Glasgow's best-loved Italian cafes is closing its doors for good leaving locals devastated. Caffè Da Sara will be serving coffee aficionados in North Kelvinside for the last time on June 26.

Famed for its delicious stuffed Italian-style cookies and sandwiches, the deli sits on Queen Margaret Drive, just a short walk from the Botanics. The owner, Sara, took to social media to break the news to her loyal customers.

The popular barista cited wanting to spend time with family and recharging the batteries and 'two very long, hard years' as the reasons behind her 'hard decision' to shut up shop. She released a statement on Instagram on Saturday.

It read: "After long ponderation, moments of doubts and sadness I have made a very hard decision . . . it's not a decision taken lightly as many of you probably know. I am sorry to tell you guys that Caffè Da Sara will be closing.

"I feel it's time for me to go on to my next adventure. . . . whatever that might be. For the time being I am gonna spend some time with my family to recharge the batteries after two very long, hard years , for the business and for myself."

Sara thanked customers who supported the cafe and hailed the memories made with locals.

She added: "You all supported my business and especially me every step of the way and I couldn't be more grateful to have met each and every one of you. Lots of memories built in this cafe, in this community, that welcomed me with open arms from the first day that I arrived; a very young, unexperienced girl with very little English.

"I will still be in Glasgow so I am sure our roads will cross again. Please make sure you do pop in this week to say bye.

"Our last day will be the 26th of June. Thank you guys for everything."
