A British boxer is in hospital in an induced coma after being injured during a match at a Glasgow hotel.
Sheffield athlete Luis Palmer was hurt by a ‘very heavy punch’ in the fourth round of his bout against Grant Quigley at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow city centre on Thursday, the Sheffield Star reports.
The event was hosted by Glasgow boxing institution St Andrew's Sporting Club as a testimonial for Pakistani-born Scottish boxer Kash Farooq, who was forced to hang up his gloves back in January at the age of just 26 following medical advice.
Robert Smith, the general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, told The Star: “I was there. It was an evenly matched contest, he took a very heavy punch at the end of the (fifth) round.

"He was treated in the ring and taken to hospital. He’s suffering from a bleed. They haven’t operated, other than releasing the pressure in the brain.
"He’s in an induced coma, as is normal procedure, I have spoken to the doctors this morning (Tuesday) and that’s where we are.”
Palmer, a 28-year-old dad-of-two, only made his debut as a pro boxer back in February at the Royal Armouries in Leeds against Mali Wright.
