Glasgow hit with flood weather warning as thunderstorms continue across the city

Thunder and lightning is heading back to Glasgow this evening as the UK-wide yellow weather warning remains in place until midnight.

According to the Met Office forecasters, Glasgow is to be hit with heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout the day, which may bring possible disruption across the city.

Scotland is also to be wary of the excess rainfall, as the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has put out an alert for torrential downpours that could lead to flooding.

Updated at 9:46am today on the SEPA website, the agency has said: "A flood alert has been issued for West Central Scotland.

"Heavy thundery showers could cause flooding impacts from surface water and small watercourses during Sunday and overnight into Monday. Any flooding impacts are likely to be localised and not all areas will be affected. Impacts may include flooding to low-lying land and roads, with difficult driving conditions.

"Urban areas and the transport network are particularly at risk, and ground conditions are currently very dry which may increase surface water runoff."

BBC Weather has also backed up the thunderstorm warning with their own alert, noting on their website that the weather will be: "overcast in the afternoon with frequent showers, which will be heavy and thundery at times. The showers could bring some locally heavy downpours."

The Met Office has sent out a full warning list of what to expect ahead of today's yellow weather warning. Read on below for all the details.
