Glasgow high-rise flat block fire leaves five injured as crews battle blaze for two hours

A number of people have been injured following a fire at a high-rise block of flats in Glasgow.

A blaze broke out at the flat on the 13th floor of the flats on Great Western Road at 9.12pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene with four fire engines and a height vehicle dispatched.

Ambulance crews also attended the fire and treated five residents who were injured, reports the Daily Record.

Their condition is currently unknown.

Fire crews worked for around two hours to bring the blaze under control.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 9.12pm on Tuesday, May 17 to reports of a fire within a multi-storey block of flats on Great Western Road, Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances and a height vehicle to the scene, where crews worked to extinguish a fire affecting the 13th floor.

"Five casualties were handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe."
