A number of roads have been closed in the area and diversions are in place. Police are advising locals to close their windows due to the smoke and not to gather on the street.

There are currently no reports of any injuries so far.

Images of the blaze show thick white smoke pouring out of the large industrial building , nearly covering the tower blocks nearby.

An eyewitness at the scene told Glasgow Live: "I just got up and was shocked to see this much smoke and a fire near the Barclays building.

"It was started slowly and peaked within five minutes. There were no sign of the fire engines for the first 20 minutes but they have been here since."

Others reported a smell of burning plastic around the city centre.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live that several emergency crews raced to the incident on Kingston Street after reports of a fire at around 9.00am Sunday morning.

Police Scotland said: "Due to a fire in Kingston Street, near the junction with Centre Street, a number of roads in the area are closed. Local diversions are in place. We are advising people to keep their windows closed due to the smoke and not to gather on the street. SFRS are dealing with the fire."
