Glasgow east end restaurant wins best Oriental takeaway in Scotland award

Owners of a Chinese takeaway in Glasgow are delighted as they are crowned best Oriental takeaway in Scotland.

Around 150 representatives of the best takeaways in Scotland gathered at the city's Marriott Hotel on Monday for the annual Scottish Takeaway Awards, to 'provide a great opportunity to showcase those who performed well over the past year and are considered the best choice by the public.'

Lam's kitchen, based in Easterhouse, was one of the lucky winners, with owners taking to social media to share their joy.

They said: "Thank you to everyone that has supported us!! We wholeheartedly appreciate it!

"The award is coming back to Easterhouse! Thank you so much to all our customers (friends) we couldn’t do it without you!"

An independent, family owned business, ran by couple Connie and Damien, it has become a staple in the local area as well as having loyal customers travelling from afar for their authentic Chinese food.

Fans of the food spot commented: "Congratulations! you deserve it, you both work so hard and you are an asset to the community", with another adding "Heading over from Australia next week and looking forward to trying Lams kitchen that will be the first meal when we arrive".

The event organisers said following the announcement of the winners: "Takeaways have been around for so long and are an integral part of our high streets and culture. There is no doubt that it is a fast-growing sector and will continue to shake up Scotland’s economy as more and more food entrepreneurs chose to provide food on the go and delivery services.

"The awards also celebrated top establishments that strive to be different. They commended those who deliver great food to their customers in a timely manner, making it easier to enjoy their delicious meal from the comfort of their homes."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Takeaway Awards said: “Although in our second year, we are honoured by the fantastic response we have had from the public who was so keen to vote for their favourite takeaways.

“This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.

“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”
