A dog owner from Glasgow was hit with a whopping £12k vet bill after their sick pup was diagnosed with a chronic diarrhoea condition.
Poppy suddenly became extremely ill last week leaving owner Olwyn Carroll in 'huge shock'.
The Springer Spaniel, just seven months old, ‘took a drastic turn for the worst’ as she suddenly began vomiting and suffering severe pains, blood loss, and struggled to walk, reports the Daily Record.
After being rushed to Glasgow Veterinary Hospital Vets Now, she was found to have Acute Hemorrhagic Diarrhoea Syndrome.
The condition leaves the stomach inflamed and triggers bleeding in the intestine which can be fatal.
Heartbroken owner Olwyn, 28, is scrambling to find a way to pay the mammoth vet bill to save her best pal.
She said: “Poppy loves life, is my ultimate companion and brings so much joy to everyone she meets.
"It would be unfair for her life to end before she gets to see spring.
"Poppy means so much to me and has become a huge part of my life already.
"It was a huge shock when things turned so horrible overnight.
“Within an hour Poppy was in such a state she could hardly walk. She was in terrible distress with the pain and amount of blood she was losing.
“After a very tough weekend Poppy has made tentative steps in the right direction.
“She is fighting hard and there is still hope, Poppy needs all the help and support.
Poppy was struck down with her illness on Monday January 24th and was rushed to the vet on Wednesday 26th.
Overnight her heat-rate became unstable, raising concerns over the amount of pain she was experiencing in her abdomen.
Poppy then received an emergency Plasma transfusion in the early hours of Thursday morning, before being able to go home one week later.
A fundraiser has now been kick started to cover Poppy's vet bills for her intensive care treatment.
The fundraiser for the poorly pup has already raised £6,000.
Olwyn added: “Poppy is such a wonderful puppy and she deserves this help.
“To ensure she has a chance to make a recovery and come home there has been no other option than to continue the intensive care treatment, the vet bills are mounting to £12k.
“I just do not have this money, so I have no other option than to ask for help from anyone that can spare even the smallest amount to help Poppy continue to receive the treatment she gravely needs to keep her alive.
“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity and support so far and can not thank everyone enough.”
