Glasgow cops preparing for 'Celtic fans to gather for title party celebrations'

Some 5000 people have responded to the event on Facebook

GLASGOW cops said they are preparing for Celtic fans to gather in the city for "title party celebrations" this weekend.

A policing plan of action has been put in place after arrangements for supporters to gather in Merchant City on Saturday have emerged on social media.

Nearly 5000 people have responded to a Facebook event, which is encouraging fans to "bring lots of flags, banners, booze, fireworks and pyro".

They plan to celebrate Ange Postecoglou's first title win, which is almost in the bag, following a Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell at Celtic Park. The game kicks off at 12.15pm.

Police Scotland remains tight-lipped on what plans will be put in place but they say they are aware of the potential gathering.

A force spokesperson said: “Police Scotland is aware of the potential gathering and an appropriate policing plan is in place.”

The public Facebook event states fans should "make lots of colour and noise" during the trophy day celebrations.
