Jane Godley has urged people to book in their mammogram in order to catch health risks early.
According to the NHS, Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK. Most women diagnosed with breast cancer are over the age of 50, but younger women can also get breast cancer.
Despite about one in seven women being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, there is a good chance of recovery if it is detected at an early stage.

On her way to get a mammogram standing outside Nelson Mandela Place, Glaswegian comedian Janey Godley stressed just how crucial getting checked is with the 62-year-old herself having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer..
In a video posted to Instagram she said: "I think it's really important that when that letter comes through the door, you take up the opportunity to get your breasts examined.
"Get it done, doesn't take long. Bit of tit squashin', you're ooota there.
"It could save your life. So go and get your breasts screened. I'm off to get mine done.

In the comment section people were glad she was talking about what many people put off be it due to fear of being in pain or an outcome they don't want.
One said: "Had mine on Tuesday, first time, worked myself up a bit but it was fine, staff were great and it wasn’t painful (and I’m the biggest baby!). Definitely recommend it, so important."
Another added: "THIS! It is SO important! I had my first screening and they found a lump 4.5cm diameter. The doctor couldn't feel it even though he knew it was there. Just the ultrasound showed him where to take the biopsies!"
They continued: "I had my breast removed - all of it as they could not say they wasn't any cancer due to the size. The biopsies had shown pre-stages to cancer. I was lucky, I know, there wasn't any cancer, but who knows when and if that would have changed? Waiting for reconstruction, and I do not regret the first operation at all. Cannot stress enough how important it is to have it done. I could not feel it, the doctor could not feel it, and it was huge!"
"I’m of an age where I no longer get automatic reminders. Thanks, your post reminded me to get in touch and try and organise a screening. Whilst women over 70 don’t automatically get an invite, you can request to continue to be screened every 3 years," said a thankful third.
What are the symptoms of breast cancer according to the NHS?
Breast cancer can have several symptoms, but the first noticeable symptom is usually a lump or area of thickened breast tissue. Most breast lumps are not cancerous, but it's always best to have them checked by a doctor.
You should also see a GP if you notice any of these symptoms:
- a change in the size or shape of one or both breasts
- discharge from either of your nipples, which may be streaked with blood
- a lump or swelling in either of your armpits
- dimpling on the skin of your breasts
- a rash on or around your nipple
- a change in the appearance of your nipple, such as becoming sunken into your breast
Breast pain is not usually a symptom of breast cancer.
