After a period of mild temperatures, things are set to a big chilly, with weather becoming more unsettled as January progresses.
An areas of low pressure, described as a "big beast" is due to wedge itself off the west coast, bringing with it stormy weather fronts from the Atlantic.
It follows days of wet weather, with Glasgow and the west issued a yellow weather warning for rain in recent days amid ongoing flooding issues across the city. The massive low-pressure vortex will see temperatures drop, with sub-zero temperatures forecast for the upcoming weekend and into the following week, reports The Daily Star.

The Met Office forecast states weather will be 'changeable' with wintry showers becoming heavy at times on Saturday over higher grounds.
Sunday will see winds pick up, with it feeling particularly chilly as we reach Monday, January 17.
Minimum temperatures of -2C over the weekend, with maximums of just 3-5C.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: “This area of low pressure is a big beast, but it is a slow-moving creature. There will be some heavy downpours thunder and hail but some bright spells in between and coastal gales in the west.
“We are seeing some interesting stuff come our way from Scandinavia, very cold air moves around a huge area of low pressure and comes in from the northwest via Iceland.
“This very cold air moves over warm seas, so there will be a lot of heavy downpours especially in the west, and temperatures will be dropping."
Meteorologist for British Weather Services, Jim Dale, said: “It will feel cold in the north with the windchill as returning Polar maritime air comes into Britain. This will have travelled over the sea, so it will pick up moisture and bring the risk of rain, although there will be some brighter spells."
