Glasgow Clan toppled at Braehead Arena by EIHL leaders Sheffield Steelers

Clan failed to make it back-to-back wins as they were outdone by an impressive Sheffield Steelers in an entertaining affair.

Challenged with the tough task of hosting the league leaders, Malcolm Cameron’s men showed no fear, bringing the game to the Steelers as an end-to-end battle ensued at Braehead Arena in the first period.

While there were no goals in the first, the game burst to life as Dyson Stevenson produced a moment of magic four minutes into the second.

He glided past several players before cueing up Colton Yellow Horn to rifle the puck high out of the reach of Rok Stojanovic to break the deadlock.

However, this lead would be short lived as the Steelers were level within a matter of minutes as Vojtech Polak teed up Martin Latal to level the score.

Despite the setback, the Clan were back in the lead just a minute later as Mitch Jones drove at the Steelers goal before dispatching into the bottom corner with expertise.

Rounding off five minutes of mayhem, the scores were level again through Brandon Whistle, who showed incredible confidence as he drove down the middle before chipping neatly over a helpless Starrett.

With just under six minutes remaining in the second period the hosts were given a lifeline as the net was ruled to have been knocked off before a Jonathan Phillips goal, keeping the score level.

Seven minutes into the third, Aaron Fox’s men got their goal on the powerplay as Evan Mosley knocked into the cage before doubling the lead through a Tanner Eberle penalty shot.

The home fans were handed a glimmer of hope as Colton Yellow Horn blasted another rocket into the top shelf, reducing the deficit to just one with five minutes remaining.

Justin Hodgman finished with a sharp finish from the left to reopen the two-goal lead then Polak rounded things off with an empty netter to end the weekend on a low note for the Clan.

The night before new boy Braylon Shmyr made an instant impact for his new club as he scored an overtime winner to help seal a tight 2-1 victory over Nottingham Panthers in England. Mathieu Roy netted the equaliser before new signing Shmyr scored the crucial decider.
