Glasgow Clan axe head coach Malcolm Cameron after dismal start to the season

Glasgow Clan yesterday announced the departure of head coach Malcolm Cameron as their turbulent season continued.

Cameron joined the Braehead-based Clan ahead of the 2021/22 season and led the club to a respectable sixth-placed finish in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

However, it has been a disappointing start to this campaign, with winless Clan rock-bottom of the table and reeling following the controversy over the aborted signing of Finnish player Lasse Uusivirta.

He was arrested in connection with a rape in the United States in 2013 but a grand jury decided not to proceed with the case.

Cameron was initially suspended alongside chief executive Gareth Chalmers – who himself was later axed – but returned to coaching duties following an investigation.

Results on the ice, however, have not been good enough, meaning it is all change ahead of tomorrow night’s home clash with Manchester Storm when assistant player-coach Stephen Dixon takes over as interim head coach.

In a statement, the Clan said: “We would like to place on record our thanks to Malcolm for his contribution to our organisation over the past 16 months.

"The Clan would like to wish Malcolm and his family all the very best in their future endeavours."
