Glasgow city centre initiative launched to attract locals and visitors to ‘discover more’

A new initiative has been launched to attract visitors and locals to the city centre of Glasgow with the use of social media.

This new push, this spring, will appeal to tourists and residents to enjoy the likes of shopping, leisure and socialising in Scotland’s biggest city with many exciting events already organised.

People are invited to use the #LoveGlasgow to search and share their experiences of the city. This could be anything from an outside tourist attraction or a tucked away, hidden gem of a pub alongside family friendly events.

Residents will be familiar with the drive of the very successful ‘Love Glasgow this Winter’ campaign which supported and drove parts of the local economy.

Stuart Patrick, Co-Chair of the City Centre Task Force and Chief Executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said:

“#LoveGlasgow is a great initiative, and one we hope will continue to encourage locals and visitors to discover more of the city.

“Glasgow is an award-winning and vibrant city with a varied consumer offer so this funding from the City Centre Task Force aims to showcase it at its best and in turn support our retail, hospitality and leisure businesses.”

The campaign will also support Glasgow’s night-time economy, free things to do and bookable events, alongside promoting culture, attractions, food and drink, sustainable travel which will be supported by the City Centre Task Force.

Events starts this weekend which include a vintage kilo sale at the Old Fruit Market and a build your own valentines rose session on Monday and Tuesday at the Lego store between 10am-12am.

Many other events are happening in the next few weeks and can be found using the #LoveGlasgow across social media.

Councillor Angus Millar, Convener for City Centre Recovery at Glasgow City Council and co-chair of the City Centre Taskforce, said:

“The city centre experience in Glasgow remains a great attraction for people living in the city and our visitors, but in a changing environment, what is on offer must evolve to meet new demands. I am pleased to see that what is being presented in the city’s centre’s retail, hospitality and leisure sectors reflects these changes, and what’s on offer will help to make the area thrive now and in the future.”
