Glasgow Central services delayed and cancelled due to broken down train

UPDATE: ScotRail confirmed that everything was running from Glasgow Central as normal on Thursday afternoon after disruption through the morning.

SERVICES from one of Scotland’s busiest stations face being delayed or cancelled due to a broken down train.

ScotRail warned passengers using Glasgow Central station of a “train fault” causing problems on Thursday morning.

All services between the station and Paisley Canal have been suspended, the operator said, while others are liable to change at short notice.

ScotRail told travellers: “Due to a train fault at Glasgow Central … train services running to and from Glasgow Central will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Staff on board are currently trying to fix the issue causing the train fault.”

The operator's website showed incoming services including from Manchester Airport and East Kilbride had been cancelled, alongside departures to locations including Edinburgh. Other services were hit with delays.

In an update later on Thursday morning, ScotRail said: “Our services between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal have been suspended.

“Train services running to and from Glasgow Central also will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Staff are on-site working on the train fault.”

In a second update, ScotRail said the "broken down train is now on the move" and that services to Paisley Canal would restart at 11.08.

However, it added: "Services remain subject to delay and cancellation as we get trains and staff back into position."

Network Rail Scotland said: "A fault on a train at Glasgow Central is causing disruption to journeys to/from this station.

“As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes or revised. This is expected until 11:00."

Earlier in the week, train services from Glasgow Central faced disruption due to flooding on rail lines amid a spate of bad weather hitting Scotland.
