Glasgow's own award-winning burger specialists are celebrating Veganuary with the launch of a new meat-free special.
The top team at El Perro Negro, who are based on Woodlands Road, are turning their hands to plant-based food with the launch of their new Symplicity vegan burger.
Winners of the National Burger Awards in 2019 and 2021, and back in this year's finals, El Perro Negro are widely considered to be one of the best in the business in the UK.
Teaming up with the UK’s leading sustainable, plant-based food brand, Symplicity which is founded by award-winning chef, Neil Rankin, El Perro Negro say they have created a burger that you "simply won’t believe is meat-free".

Created with fermented vegetables, Symplicity’s products are used by some of the UK’s top chefs including Gordon Ramsay and Tom Kerridge, with El Perro Negro chef Nick Watkins now joining the ranks. El Perro Negro became the first restaurant in Scotland to use Symplicity’s plant based burgers, an alternative to traditional heavily-processed vegan products.
Describing the Symplicity meatless patty as "juicy and flavoursome", the burger is accompanied by vegan cheese and lashings of a vegan version of El Perro Negro’s speciality burger sauce, with lettuce, tomato, red onion and topped off with vegan brioche buns.
Speaking about the burger, El Perro Negro founder, Nick Watkins said: “As our customers know, we’re self-confessed carnivores so it takes a lot for us to ditch the beef! But our new vegan burger is next level flavour-wise. There’s no compromise on taste and we know our customers will love it.”
Music to the ears of vegans, the burger restaurant’s new vegan special (priced at £9.50) will be available on the menu all year-round at El Perro Negro on Woodlands Road in Glasgow, and the Edinburgh branch at Bonnie & Wild, St James Quarter for both sit-in and collection.
