Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station armed police incident part of 'ongoing investigation'

Commuters were left shocked after armed police descended on Glasgow's Buchanan Bus Station.

Officers holding guns were spotted by eyewitnesses around 7:15pm on Thursday night (March 11) at the busy bus station.

A picture, shared by Facebook community group No1Seems2Care, showed armed officers surrounding a coach - a M9 service to Aberdeen - in the stance area with their weapons trained.

Meanwhile another image showed three police vehicles were also spotted parked near the main station concourse area.

Reports suggest that officers conducted a search on 'a few buses' at the station and then left around 15 minutes later.

Police have now confirmed to Glasgow Live that armed officers were sent to the station "in response to an ongoing police investigation" and that there was no threat to the wider public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were in attendance at Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow around 7.15pm on Thursday, 11 March, in response to an ongoing police investigation.

"There was no risk to the wider public.”
