Glasgow Broadcast bar reopens after 'positive negotiations' in working conditions dispute

Glasgow's Broadcast bar has reopened for the first time since workers raised a catalogue of concerns over working practices.

The Sauchiehall Street venue closed its doors after union members highlighted an array of issues in a collective grievance letter. Staff demanded action on a number of issues including proper break areas, lack of security staff after 8pm, and outstanding wages and sick pay.

They called on owners to investigate health and safety concerns, provide more transparency about pay, and for all staff to be provided with legally valid employment contracts. They also called for the company to provide fully paid transport after 11pm and bring in the Real Living Wage for all employees.

It was confirmed to Unite Hospitality that the bar would be closed until "working conditions are improved" with the union's satisfaction from July 14. Workers were paid their full wages during the closure.

The union has now confirmed that the bar has reopened following 'positive negotiations'.

A statement explained: "Following positive negotiations between the owner and our Unite the union reps, Broadcast will be opening from tonight (Thursday). Our members are satisfied with progress made on health/safety and contracts.

"In particular, we are pleased that significant improvements have been made to contractual terms and that all damage caused by a leak from the upstairs building has been fixed.

"Hopefully, we can build upon this and progress and make it the best live events venue in Glasgow for workers conditions."
