Glasgow BBC Glow up make-up artist makes judge cry over 'rare' look

A Glasgow contestant, On-May, has made a judge cry during the show - and it was for all the right reasons.

During the first episode of BBC's hit television series, Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star, the Glaswegian make-up artist (MUA) showed off her skills proving the very reason why she was on the show.

For the MUAs' first assignment, they’re headed to a film studio in Greater London, the set of one of Netflix’s biggest dramas: Bridgerton. In the crowd tent, they meet hair and make-up designer Erika Ökvist.

The student, who also works as a retail make up artist in the city, wowed the experts with her creation based on binge-eating.

Stepping forward first she explained her design by saying: "My look is based on binge-eating. I actually struggle with this quite a lot."

She added: "I wanted to spread awareness I guess."

The show is now airing on the BBC. (BBC)

Erika Ökvist said: "On-May when I look at this picture, I really, really feel your pain. And I'm very grateful that you are sharing it with us.

"I'm getting a little bit teary now actually" with the pair crying. "Excellent piece of work" the expert added.

Val Garland then added: "I love the illusion of this make-up. The attention to detail is fantastic. I mean those teeth look like teeth. But if you could have spent more time in the centre, you would have created more of a 3D image."

Adding to the feedback Dominic Skinner said: "The way you're handling your brush is very illustrative. That is a quality in make-up artists that is very rare.

Series five, which began on May 2, has two Scots competing against each other with a total of 10 people on the show. The other Scot, alongside On-May is 27-year-old Axel - a computer arts student from Dundee who also blew the judges away.

Glow Up series airs weekly every Wednesday on BBC and BBC iPlayer. You can watch episode one on BBC iPlayer.
