Glasgow Airport has been locked down due to concern for an item found in a passenger’s bag, bosses have confirmed.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 6am on Monday, December 5, after the alarm was raised in the central search area.
A large part of the terminal remains closed while safety checks are being carried out, with passengers warned to expect delays.
Travellers have been seen waiting in the car park due to restricted access to the terminal, where large queues have already formed.
But reports are now emerging that passengers are being evacuated from the airport building.
A video has emerged showing a uniformed police officer and airport staff ushering dozens of commuters across the road into Car Park 2.
No further information about the nature of the item is currently available.
A statement from Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 6am, Police Scotland attended the airport due to concern around an item in a passenger’s bag in the central search area.
"Access to this part of the terminal is currently restricted while checks are being carried out meaning passengers arriving at the airport for departing flights will face delays.
"We are liaising with Police Scotland and will provide an update as soon as we can.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police and emergency services are currently in attendance at an ongoing incident at Glasgow Airport.
"The terminal building has been closed as a precaution, however, not evacuated. No further details available at this time."
