Glasgow Airport issue update on how long passengers should arrive amid delays

In recent days there have been a lot of cancelled flights with British Airways (BA) and easyJet among the most affected.

As a result of recent issues around 15,000 people are said to have been affected by the flight issues this week.

The chaos is said to be linked to airline staff shortages with many being forced to stay off work after testing positive for covid.

Because of this, passengers are turning up earlier than usual in a bid to get through security and ensure they have a hassle free trip.

The news of flight cancellations comes amid a fresh warning to passengers who have a passport which is set to expire soon.

New rules were introduced after the UK left the EU regarding how many months are needed to be on the passport to be able to travel.

Previously, UK residents just needed to have a passport that was in date to be able to travel to countries across Europe however the government website now states that people need at least three months left on their passport to be able to travel to an EU country stating it must be "valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave."

But this isn't the standard for all airlines as Ryanair and easyJet - who are already caught up in flight cancellations - need six months.

But with all the cancellations and covid rules, should passengers be arriving to Glasgow airport early amid flight cancellations?

How early should I arrive at Glasgow Airport?

Whilst many airports are facing delays, Glasgow Airport is said to be coping.

Despite this, bosses have said passengers should double check with their airline for this information, however as a general rule of thumb, they have given an indication of when they should arrive and ask they prepare for any potential traffic delays.

When you should arrive at the airport

Passengers should arrive at the airport...

  • Two hours before a flight within the UK (domestic)
  • Three hours before European flight
  • Four hours before a long haul flight

Your airline may offer an online check-in option which will save you time.

You will also want to check when you need to check-in for your flight to ensure you arrive in plenty of time.
