Glasgow accent voted one of the 'sexiest' in the UK according to dating app, Match

Whilst we may be bias about certain things when it comes to where we grew up, it seems one thing we may not be appreciating is our accents.

When we think of the 'sexist' accents our minds often turn to French, Italian or Spanish and very rarely our own.

But it seems others think that the Glaswegian accent is up there with some of the best when it comes to the United Kingdom.

The news comes as a poll by the dating app Match, who tried to find the UK's sexiest accent, found that the way we speak when we meet people for the first time can influence how we approach relationships.

Their data found that one in five singles found it accents to be important and with that in mind, Match, which has installed a voice-note feature on the app, asked thousands of singletons which accent they found to be the sexiest in the UK.

And surprisingly - or unsurprisingly to some - only one Scottish regional accent made it into the top 10 list with our accent ranking at number seven.

A spokeswoman for the dating app said: “Like it or not, we’re judged on our voices in the early stages of dating. In fact, 21 per cent say they can tell if they’re going to find someone attractive just from hearing their voice.”

Dating expert Hayley Quinn, also from Match, added: "When it comes to attraction, your voice can be your superpower in creating the spark.

“Yes, to succeed at online dating you need great pictures and a well-written profile, but incorporating your voice gives you the chance to stand out to potential dates and to create trust.

“You can short circuit first date awkwardness by communicating who you are using voice notes.”
