Glasgow 6-year-old given hero's welcome after 96-mile trek for food bank charity

A 6-year-old boy from Dalmuir has been given a hero's welcome after he completed a mammoth 96-mile trek in five days for charity.

Ollie Durand walked the West Highland Way alongside his dad, Stephen, to raise funds for Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels, where they have both volunteered for the last year.

The father and son completed the hike from Milngavie to Fort William on Saturday and have so far raised £2,365 for the beloved food bank.

Despite finishing the tiresome journey, Ollie was still full of energy.

Proud, dad Stephen told Glasgow Live: "As soon as we got off the train he went away to play at inflatable world.

"I am absolutely buzzing for him, he did so well. It is some achievement.

"It was a really good reception at the food bank, they were really good to him. They all applauded him and made him feel like a million dollars.

"So he was buzzing and happy."

Volunteers at the Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels welcomed the superstar back with easter eggs and toys after he raised so much money for the charity.

Maureen Cummings from the charity said: "We are very proud of Ollie who is our youngest volunteer and never tired of helping us and is always coming up with ideas to help others in our Foodbank especially children.

"He is an absolute credit to his mum and dad and we are very lucky to have him as part of our OKFP Family."

Prior to completing the challenge Ollie told Glasgow Live: "I like helping people because it makes me feel good."
