GlasGLOW light show organisers have released CCTV footage of six vandals who daubed obscene graffiti on their displays. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning in Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens.
One red-headed activist was caught looking directly into the camera and smiling before writing 'Greta was here' on a model of a fossil dinosaur head, while being egged on by accomplices. Another two ‘protesters’, who struggled to reach over two hay bales, were seen spraying an ‘no Tory c***s allowed' on a banner.
We previously told how event bosses were appealing for help from members of the public to come forward if they had any information about those responsible. Oli Norman, CEO of itison, said: “Alongside the entire team I’m saddened and disgusted by the mindless vandalism that took place at GlasGLOW early this morning.
“This behaviour has nothing to do with the climate emergency or protecting wildlife, and everything to do with a small minority of individuals trying to tell us what we can and can’t do in our public spaces.
"We have been accused of ‘green washing’ for using biofuels and donating tens of thousands to local charities and labelled ‘corporate greedy’ for employing over 270 local people to deliver GlasgGLOW.
“We are a local company putting on an event bringing families and friends together to spread light and joy in the dark months. These trolls should be ashamed of themselves – not only are they disrupting a much-loved event, but they have undermined the cause of environmental groups that genuinely want to drive change.”
In an update on Sunday, the event said: “After information came forward yesterday we have all the names of the individuals who are now reported to the police.
“We’re sad that people would target a family event in a local garden but thank everyone for their kind words - it means a lot. And the last thank you to our team who all came together to clean up the damage - you guys are amazing.”
Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating.
