Give us your player ratings as Newcastle United return to Wembley after Southampton semi-final win

Newcastle United are going back to Wembley Stadium for the first time since the turn of the century as they beat Southampton 2-1 (3-1 aggregate) in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.

The Magpies got off to a flying start when midfielder Sean Longstaff bagged his second goal of the season following a nice give-and-go move with Kieran Trippier after just four minutes.

An incredible flowing move that included five different players of Eddie Howe's side saw them find their second, Joelinton and Joe Willock working wonders down the left-hand touchline before the latter found Miguel Almiron who cut it back for Longstaff to hammer home to give Newcastle a two-goal lead 20 minutes into the first half.

Toon goalkeeper Nick Pope conceded for the first time in over 900 minutes just eight minutes later as Che Adams rifled an effort from 25 yards out across goal to give the Saints some semblance of hope.

Adam Armstrong had a chance in the 71st minute to level the scoreline and really put Newcastle under pressure but Pope got down quickly to snuff out the chance, before Longstaff nearly scored his hattrick with an outrageous 30-yard volley attempt that Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu got a hand onto.

It wasn't all smiles towards the end of the match though as Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was shown a straight red card for his tackle on Southampton winger Sam Edozie after referee Paul Tierney was consulted by VAR.

That means he'll miss the Magpies' next three Premier League matches against West Ham, Bournemouth and Liverpool but will be available for the Carabao Cup Final.
