Give us your player ratings as Newcastle United lose 2-0 to Liverpool ahead of Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United lost only their second Premier League game of the season on Saturday afternoon during a 2-0 defeat at St James' Park that saw Nick Pope shown a straight red card and subsequently suspended for the Carabao Cup final.

Jurgen Klopp's side made it home and away wins against the Magpies this term as they secured victory on Tyneside. Having already beaten Newcastle at Anfield earlier in the season, Liverpool maintained their record as the only team in the top-flight to manage to take all three points off the Magpies thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.

A 17-match unbeaten run came to an end for Eddie Howe's side, who have now gone four games in a row without victory. To make matters worse, Pope was also sent off by Anthony Taylor for handling the ball outside of the penalty area, meaning the 30-year-old is now suspended for the League Cup final against Manchester United.

Despite being two goals and a man down for the vast majority of the 90 minutes, Newcastle did not give in and rallied in the second-half to cause Liverpool some moments of panic. Both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak had chances to score, with Allan Saint-Maximin proving to be a handful every time he set off on another mazy run.
