Organisers of the Girvan Arts Festival have announced a packed schedule as the countdown begins to the return of this year’s event.
The festival will be staged from Saturday, June 3 to Sunday, June 4 and it’s hoped there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
A festival programme has been released, detailing a wide variety of things to see and do including traditional boat building, quilting, sustainable cookery demonstrations and more.
In addition, there’s events planned for children, taking place in the Girvan Library.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “After the success of the first Girvan Arts Festival in 2022, we are happy to announce that the 2023 festival will be held on the first weekend in June.
“Again, most of the events will take place in the Girvan Community Garden, but the Wee School Art Space will be hosting the festival exhibition once more and cream teas will be available again at the South Parish Church.
“The Strathclyde University Chamber Choir will be appearing in the church itself.
“In addition, there will be two events for children hosted by Girvan Library, and the library will also be showing a film as part of the Girvan Arts Festival.
“We hope there is something to whet everyone’s appetite, from traditional boat building to historical crime fiction, sustainable cookery, quilting and the life of international Girvan playwright, Douglas Maxwell.”
There will be a performance by the Strathclyde Chamber Choir and a talk about a lifetime spent building wooden fishing boats, and there will be a bit of a musical knees-up in the Community Garden with John McGinnis and friends.
The spokesperson added: “We will have talks on the art of distilling gin and whisky, taking Victorian glass plate photographs of modern lifeboats, and a demonstration of woodturning.
“For younger artists, there will be two workshops at the library, hat-making and crafting, and the library will also be screening the wonderful ‘Cinema Paradiso’ for the Festival Film Club.
“Our ticket prices have all been reduced to £5, to make coming to the festival more affordable in these difficult times, and events in the Library are all free.”
The festival’s art exhibition will run on both days, just round the corner at the Wee School Art Space.
Tickets will be on sale, subject to availability, from the festival box office (cash only), which will be open from 11am to 4pm on both days of the festival. Tickets can also be purchased prior to the festival by phoning Helen on 07815 082 662.
